JFS Middle School recently held a mock general election to determine the top pizza restaurant in Endicott, giving students a hands-on experience with the voting process. After an exciting primary election featuring candidates like Nirchi’s, Joey’s, Nick’s, Rossi’s, Jim Roma’s, and Tony’s, the two finalists—Rossi’s and Nirchi’s—advanced to the general election. On election day, students from sixth through eighth grade visited the library, which served as their polling location, where they signed in, walked to a voting booth, and cast their ballots. Each student received an “I Voted” sticker, adding to the authenticity of the experience. This mock election provided valuable lessons on the fundamentals of voting, electioneering, campaigning, and appropriate polling place etiquette, giving students a practical understanding of civic engagement. And the candidate with the most votes is Nirchi’s!
