Congratulations to Chris Murdock, U-E Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), on being named an Unsung Hero by Binghamton University (B.U.)
Unsung Heroes are recognized at the annual BU Let Us Dream Conference which brings together educators and practitioners who want to support young people in identifying and achieving their dreams. Chris was selected for his dedication to supporting the community schools’ work in the district, and his passion for always keeping students' needs at the forefront of every decision. Chris and other recipients will be honored during the conference on November 18.
Christopher Murdock is the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Union-Endicott Central School District. For eighteen years, Chris has been in education and spent the last fifteen years as a social studies teacher at JFS prior to moving into his new role. Chris sits on several boards and committees, including the Board Advisory Team for Equity and Student Achievement, the Broome County Chamber of Commerce DEI Committee, and the Regional DEI Committee through Binghamton University.
In working with the BOE and other stakeholders to ensure access for all community members, Chris has overseen several initiatives. The efforts to support our school community have been most recently brought to fruition in the opening of the Family Support and Food Centers, housed in U-E's district office. Chris also secured grant funding and piloted the Brother-to-Brother and U-E Efficacy Club initiative which has impacted over 500 students of color in the district. A native of Bridgeport, Connecticut, Chris completed his Bachelor of Science at Keuka College, Master of Science in Education at Walden University and his Certificate of Advanced Study at SUNY Cortland. He is currently completing coursework through the International Institute for Restorative Practices.
