Brittany Sharpe’s Family and Consumer Sciences class recently turned up the heat in the kitchen—for a great cause! Students spent the day baking homemade dog treats to give back to some of our furry friends at the Broome County Humane Society and the Broome County Dog Shelter. Altogether, they whipped up about 144 tasty treats, using just four simple ingredients: pumpkin, peanut butter, eggs, and flour.
The idea began as a conversation between Sharpe and Koren Rubino Monte, Director of Health and Wellness. Once the shelters were on board, the students were thrilled to put their culinary skills to work to support a local cause. This project gave students a fun, hands-on way to think about the community and explore unique ways they can make a difference.
Of course, two special taste testers were on hand to ensure the treats were up to snuff. U-E therapy dogs Wrigley and Sulley gave their enthusiastic paw of approval! 🐾
Thank you to everyone involved for showing how giving back can be meaningful and delicious!
